Former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar has sparked a fresh political debate in the state by accusing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders of attempting to divide Punjab on religious and linguistic lines.
Jakhar made the remarks while criticizing the ruling party’s approach to political and social issues in the state. He said Punjab has a long tradition of communal harmony and unity and warned against any attempt to create divisions among people based on religion or language.
The BJP leader urged political parties to focus on development, governance, employment, agriculture, and public welfare instead of engaging in politics that could affect social cohesion.
His statement has generated discussion across Punjab’s political circles, with the issue becoming a subject of debate among leaders and supporters of different parties. The remarks come at a time when political activity in the state is intensifying ahead of upcoming local body elections and other political contests.
Punjab has historically been known for its diverse cultural and linguistic heritage. Political observers note that issues related to identity and community often attract significant public attention in the state.
Jakhar’s comments have once again brought the spotlight on the political discourse in Punjab, with the debate expected to continue in the coming days.
